TRIBUTE TO MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHERS

By | Vazir Ruangrungsatit

Good morning, respected administrators, dear parents, fellow students, and of course, our dedicated teachers, who guide us every day.

Today, I want to talk about something we don’t always say out loud enough, recognizing the work teachers do, not in an overly sentimental way, but in an everyday, honest sense. Most of the time, teaching isn’t anything dramatic or exciting. It’s more about going over the same material, being patient with students, and explaining things repeatedly, even when it feels repetitive. It’s checking papers late at night, preparing lessons early in the morning, and making sure each class is ready before we even walk through the door. That’s the part most people don’t really see.

Our Grade 6 teachers who laid the foundation, our Grade 7 teachers who guided us through transition, and our Grade 8 teachers who helped shape who we are today, along with every subject teacher who taught us, you have all played a part in our journey. Each lesson, reminder, and correction adds up.

Teachers show up every day, facing different personalities, learning styles, and challenges, and somehow still manage to teach, guide, and care. That alone deserves recognition. Did you know that on average, a teacher makes about 1,500 decisions in a single school day? That’s everything, from deciding whether to extend a due date because a student asked to, to deciding whether someone’s “bathroom emergency” is actually an emergency.  So, if they seem tired sometimes, that’s probably why.

But what really stands out is the long-term impact teachers make. A lot of what they do doesn’t show results right away. It might be a small piece of advice, a quiet correction, or simply the way they handle a situation. Those moments stay with us, even if we don’t realize it immediately. And today, as we recognize students for their academic achievements, it’s only right that we also recognize the teachers who invested their time and effort to make those achievements possible. And let’s be honest, we students don’t always make it easy. Sometimes we submit our assignments late, talk too much in class, or ask, “Wait, what are we supposed to be doing again?” right after everything has already been explained. These small things add up, but still, our teachers keep showing up—day after day, for months at a time.

That kind of consistency is something we shouldn’t take for granted. So today, let’s take a moment, not grandly or dramatically, but in a sincere and simple one, to say thank you. Thank you for your time, your patience, your effort, and your commitment to teaching, even when it’s not easy.

On behalf of all the middle school students, thank you to our Grade 6, Grade 7, and Grade 8 teachers, as well as to all our subject teachers. Thank you for showing up, for guiding us, and for believing in us. Because in the end, that matters more than you might think.

Thank you.
